The Walk on the Capitol was not only an awareness-building event, but it also raised funds toward furthering prevention, education, research and advocacy efforts.
The funds raised from the Walk on the Capitol support the individual education and advocacy programs of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation - independent non profit organizations. How Proceeds are Utilized: The Walk on the Capitol will provide financial support to expanding programs in prevention, education, research. Efforts funded by the Walk on the Capitol proceeds include:
- Providing free resources to all individuals affected by obesity, morbid obesity and childhood obesity
- Developing topic-specific patient education materials on obesity, morbid obesity, childhood obesity and obesity stigma
- Expanding research in obesity and its treatments
- Creation and support of community initiatives, such as the Bryan G. Woodward Community Grants
- National awareness outreach campaigns
- And much more!
